Acoustical Design/Consulting BJBE Sanctuary Deerfield, IL
Mike Konopka provided the acoustical and audio systems design for Congregation BJBE’s new sanctuary. The reform congregation’s beautiful 600 seat worship facility is located in Deerfield, Illinois. The acoustical design features a K-13 spray-up acoustical ceiling treatment to reduce outside noise. This ceiling treatment helped attain Mike’s specified reverberation decay times. Also, Mike’s absorption plan called for NRC rated wall fabrics and padded seating. As a result, the room’s acoustics maintain even absorption with varying sized audiences for BJBE’s wide ranging services and events.

The Sanctuary LCR audio system features a QSC powered Electrovoice (EV) loudspeaker array. Included in this speaker hang are delay zones under the loge, and also in four balcony positions. Additionally, Mike’s design called for Earthworks choir mics flown in the sanctuary’s cascade. Mike Konopka had these mics installed for times when a choir sings from that sloped area. A Behringer X32 digital audio console is in place at the front-of-house desk. Also, for webcasting services at BJBE, a Tricaster video system was installed by David Baker.
The BJBE project architects were Boston’s Finegold Alexander & Associates. The general contractor was the Krusinski Construction Company. Dave Bieber of Gurtz Electric of Chicago provided expert electrical installation, which features clean technical power (CTP) for all AV systems. Pat McCarthy of SPM audio (below) assisted with the audio system’s installation.
